Review: This special edition pressing is a work of art as the pattern is really eye-catching. The stamp on the label is a stylish touch, too. As for the music, this is an anniversary edition of the Damon Albarn-led group's earliest available commercial release and one of their very best. The noir feel of the title track, thanks to its unforgettable melodies and atmospheric, Morricone-esque flourish, is one of the greatest indie singles of the century so far. And '12D3' is one of Gorillaz' most underrated, full of deep meaning and clues into Gorillaz mythology.

It's an EP that paired sighing harmonies with dense power chords and twangy lead guitar and set them on the path to becoming the indie rock giants they are in 2025 with Wednesday's Rat Saw God and Lenderman's Manning Fireworks both being loved by indie fans and critics alike. Now back on wax, this early collaboration offers a glimpse of the magic that sparked their rise to the top.

Review: The third album by this Scottish band is one of the most beloved by fans of the band. Produced famously by Walter Becker from Steely Dan, China Crisis made one of the slickest sounding albums of the 80s. The band did an amazing job blending styles like synth pop, new wave, lounge, jazz and even reggae. With hits like 'King In A Catholic Style' and 'Blue Sea' along with longtime favourites like 'Black Many Ray' and 'Gift Of Freedom', the album features one smooth gem after the other. Some of the most enjoyable cuts are the deeper ones like 'You Did Cut Me' and 'Bigger The Punch I'm Feeling' where they funkiness comes out in full showing how talented of musicians they were at the time. This 40th anniversary reissue honors this fabulous recording in its fullest. An underrated album that is still rising with respect as the years go on.

Review: More than four decades after he first appeared in smudged eyeliner and a mop of jet-black hair, Robert Smith is still finding new ways to pull his music apart and stitch it back together. This new remix collection i assembled and curated by Smith himself i feels less like a victory lap and more like a restless dissection of a legacy he's still actively shaping. The collaborators here are hardly incidental: Four Tet, Orbital, Ame, Chino Moreno, Mura Masa, Trentemoller, Mogwai. It reads like a list built by someone still hungrily tuned into the present, not stuck in the past. And true to form, the results are all over the place i a feature, not a flaw. Some tracks lean into grandeur: Paul Oakenfold's take on 'I Can Never Say Goodbye' opens with all the sweeping melodrama you'd expect, while Daybreakers stretch 'WarSong' into widescreen synthwork. Elsewhere, Shanti Celeste and Ex-Easter Island Head bring a strange intimacy to 'Alone', teasing out its ache with a different kind of spaciousness. At times, you wonder if Smith enjoys seeing how far his work can be bent before it breaks. But it never does i even filtered through others' hands, his sense of tension, drama and deep emotional unease holds everything together.

Review: In today's all-go culture, quitting is frowned upon. Ironically, the new 15-track rock-leaning album from Haim, produced by Danielle Haim and Rostam Batmanglij, hardly hears so much a scrap of towel thrown in. It follows a reconvening by the trio in early 2023, and a nudging hint via social media at an upcoming Jai Paul collab. Alana Haim described this record as "the closest (they) have ever gotten to how (they) wanted to sound," marking a notable shift from their previous work. Paul Thomas Anderson returns to shoot the album cover, continuing his creative partnership with the band after Alana starred in his most seventies teen drama Licorice Pizza.

Review: This 2xCD edition goes well beyond nostalgia, offering the definitive take on Soft Cell's most illicit and club-focused chapter. Originally released in 1982 their second album was a bold pivot: less of the noir cabaret that had its roots in their Leeds Poly days, more MDMA-drenched disco detachment. But what felt fleeting at the time now reads like a fully formed vision. The first disc captures the original six-track run, including a furious remake of 'Memorabilia', the twisted funk of 'Sex Dwarf' and their glam-stomp take on 'What' i a track that somehow hit Number Three in the UK while sounding like it belonged in a haunted backroom. The second disc expands the picture with extended cuts like 'Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go' and 'Torch', all of which showcase how Soft Cell flirted with pop but refused to smooth their edges. It's a new reissue, but more importantly, it's a reminder of just how ahead of their time they were i turning sleaze into sophistication and dancefloor detritus into poetry. Digitally remastered and packed with rarities, this is as complete a portrait of Soft Cell's ecstatic peak as you'll find.

Review: Legendary London label and record shop Rough Trade is celebrating its formative years from 1978 to 1993 the only way it knows how - with music. Founded in 1977, Rough Trade has consistently championed innovative artists from Metal Urbain to its current roster including Amyl and The Sniffers, Pulp and Jockstrap, always capturing the DIY spirit and musical daring that have defined its legacy for over 45 years. This limited-edition 7" singles boxset was curated by co-MDs Jeannette Lee and Geoff Travis and feature some of their favourite singles from the label's early days, from reggae king Augustus Pablo - who launched the label - to Subway Sect, Stiff Little Fingers and on to Cabaret Voltaire. Review: One of the most underappreciated and perhaps most emotionally resonant albums from this legendary keyboard wizard gets a timely reissue. Released in 1992, it was overshadowed by the shifting tides of popular music, but time has finally begun to catch up to its brilliance. Here, Dolby reveals a matured musical identity that is melodically rich, lyrically thoughtful and sonically adventurous. 'Cruel', featuring the exquisite Eddi Reader, is one of Dolby's most stirring ballads. A lush, heartfelt piece that blends synth sophistication with intimate vocals. 'Eastern Bloc (the sequel)' cleverly reimagines 'Europa and the Pirate Twins', even borrowing rhythmic cues from Johnny Otis's 'Willie and the Hand Jive' before veering into its own layered complexity. On 'Silk Pajamas' and 'I Love You Goodbye', Dolby dips into a warm, Southeastern US sound palette, his intricate electronic textures as well as his knack for genre fusion (without ever sounding gimmicky) shining bright. Even when venturing toward mainstream pop ('Close but No Cigar') or darker territory ('Neon Sisters'), Dolby remains unpredictable yet unmistakably himself. The final track, 'Beauty of a Dream', is a moving, cinematic closer that lingers long after. While The Golden Age of Wireless remains iconic, Astronauts & Heretics is Dolby at his most personal and artistically fearless. It's great to see this album get its due.

Review: Stourbridge-raised grebo trailblazers Pop Will Eat Itself are doing their bit to breathe life into an unfairly forgotten scene that they helped start in the late 80s from their town on the outskirts of Birmingham. Whilst Britpop hit major label sales targets, the more nuanced sonics - everything from punk and folk to electronic and hip-hop was referenced - was harder for the labels to package, leaving grebo to gather dust, relatively speaking. But this reissue of the Public Enemy-influenced group's 1996 compilation (released the year they split) makes a case for the resurrection of grebo to prevail. Among the highlights are 'Wise Up! Sucker' and 'Can You Dig It?', which dented the charts in 1988, and the slightly later 'Not Now James, We're Busy', a track about James Brown's arrest in the 1980s which captures their Black Country sense of humour and genre-blending greatness. A fun return to the second half of the band's first era as Clint Mansell - now of course and esteemed soundtracks compsoer - and co prepare to take to the road in reformed guise in October.

Review: Formed during New Order's mid-90s hiatus, UK duo Monaco saw bassist Peter Hook and David Potts push Hook's signature bass-driven sound into unabashed pop territory. This expanded reissue revisits their 1997 debut, which hit number eleven on the UK charts and features the single 'What Do You Want From Me?'-a track so reminiscent of New Order it was frequently mistaken for one. Elsewhere, 'Shine' and 'Sweet Lips' channel jangly optimism through punchy synths and glam-flecked choruses, while deeper cuts like 'Blue' and 'Sedona' explore moodier, more textured arrangements. The bonus material includes previously unreleased tracks and two extended remixes of 'Sweet Lips': a warm, dubbed-out version from Farley & Heller and a disco-fuelled slice from Joey Negro. Hook's presence remains unmistakable, grounding even the most saccharine melodies with his driving low-end. What emerges is a curiously compelling time capsule of 90s alt-pop euphoria, full of hooks, heart and heavy basslines.
